ARA-290 (Cibinetide) is a synthetic, non-erythropoietic 11-amino-acid peptide derived from the B-subunit of erythropoietin (EPO). While native EPO interacts with homodimeric receptors to stimulate red blood cell production, ARA-290 is structurally engineered to bind selectively and with high affinity to the heteromeric Innate Repair Receptor (IRR). In neurobiological and immunological literature, the activation of the IRR by ARA-290 is extensively investigated for its capacity to initiate an immediate intracellular tissue-protective response, dampening severe pro-inflammatory cascades, and evaluating peripheral nerve fiber repair mechanisms without altering hematocrit variables.
